It's a start! So what next?

Hello! I am glad you are reading this. I wanted to write this at first just in case you don't read the rest of this deluge of text. I do appreciate you visiting my site.

The Roon Skaiver Music website took a while to come together. Last year I made a return to composing music and I knew I eventually wanted to make a personal site where I could (eventually) share both finished and work in progress projects. I also have plans to give people a way to support me by purchasing singles, albums, or sheet music of my piano works. The music was already there, but as I discovered when sharing stuff on other sites like Reddit and YouTube, there is a lot of legwork to get videos together.

Yes, there are probably millions like me doing the same thing in trying to share their music online. That's fine. This isn't about a sustainable career at this point. It's about 25 years of time away from composing and the residual energy I have had to create music. This is the only life that I can live as who I am now, so I want to seize the opportunity to share what I am creating and hope it connects with people. I think it's great that artists like myself, with a life away from music to tend with, can still have an easier path than in the past to connect with interested listeners.

So what do I do? I guess I write video game music. I say this because my return to music composition last year all started from offering to help my brother with his first computer game, Sortlandia, by writing some original tunes for background music. I had a lot of fun, and my ideas and energy far outpaced what was needed for that game, so I started writing a bunch of instrumental songs with computer game vibes as candidates for his upcoming game, Slacker: Job Simulator, as well as numerous solo piano pieces (it is my primary instrument) and some experimental dips into orchestral waters. It's been great so far, and I want to keep improving my process and my performances. I have shared around 30 pieces on my YouTube channel so far, but I am writing new stuff most weeks and I also have at least 60 or more finished projects that just need some light editing and mastering TLC before sharing.

So, if you like what you hear on my website, consider buying something from the shop (coming soon! - I'm still remastering the songs for sale and streaming), or at least going to my YouTube page and doing the like and subscribe business (and notifications!). Both will help me acquire new gear and software that will further improve my ability to make music. Thank you very much for your support!

-Robin

I'm always looking to collaborate on interesting projects that need original music. I can offer reasonable terms!
